The following diagram at the left side is to be folded into the preceding
larger model, while the other at the right side is to be folded into the previous
coiled up model.
The elasticity of paper affects each diagram to be folded into its characteristic 3-dimensional shape and also affects each folded structure to hold some rigidity and flexibility (these mechanical properties mostly depend on the shapes and arrangements of [mountain-/valley-] creases, it seems).
